If you found yourself unlucky enough to be a downed aircrew in Vietnam, but lucky enough to be rescued by the 40th, you would end up wearing one of these.
This 40th operated from Udorn from 1968, Nakhon Phanom from 1971 and Korat from 1975 to 1976.
You couldn't do much in Vietnam without teamwork, this being a very visible side of teamwork in action. Rescues took huge amount of coordinating from various crews and squadrons.
