Maybe add Det 14 (Keflavik) under the 67 ARRS.
ReplyDeleteI've added Det. 14, thanks for the idea.
DeleteHi there, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I recently found a "Jolly Green" patch that was my Grandfather's. He was in the air force during Vietnam, but I'm not sure what unit or anything he was in. I looked through most of your images of different Jolly Green patches, but I can't find one that matches his patch. It says "original" at the top, instead of a unit. I found one image of yours that shows an "original" patch, but it's a different green giant. Is there any chance you might be able to help me find out more about where it came from? I can send you an image of it, if that's alright with you. Thanks for reading!
ReplyDeleteI'll help you no problems. Just send another message with your email and I'll contact you. Don't worry putting your email in a message I have to approve all of them so it won't go public. Looking forward to helping out and getting you answers.
ReplyDeleteWonderful read
ReplyDeleteMy Grandpa was a PJ Medical Instructor at Kirtland AFB back in the mid to late 70’s and early mid 80’s, he was with the 1550th, did they wear Jolly Green patches there.? If so, I’d like to see what that one would’ve looked like.
ReplyDeleteHaving a Grandfather as a PJ instructor must make you very proud and you obviously want to learn more.
DeleteThe 1550th operated HH-53's but I've never seen a patch from the 1550th with a Jolly Green Giant on it I'm afraid. He would have definitely sent guys to units that would. Do you know if he was with any other Squadron?
Thank you so much for replying back to my comment.! My grandpa’s name was Jim Spears, my dad, John Spears was also a PJ, and he was stationed at Patrick AFB back in 82-84, Det 15.! I’m truly proud of my grandpa and my dad, grandpa was a PJ from 65-85, served in Da Nang, Vietnam, then I believe Panama, then Hill AFB, Korea for a short period, then at Kirtland AFB to finish out as one of the instructors at the school, 1550th, yes.! I’m not sure what other squadron he could’ve been with, I sent you a few emails actually.! Please let me know.? I sent them to the email you have listed here.! I appreciate any help at all. Wanting to put together a little shadow box with my grandpa’s and dad’s patches if I can, grandpa passed away when I was 11, sure do miss him, dad is still here and kicking strong. This is a personal project to me for sure. :)
