66th Rescue Squadron
Black Colour/Memorial Jolly Green Patch
This is a patch that was designed by
one of the Squadron members in an attempt to convince the squadron commander to
switch patch colours to match the squadron nametags. These were issued
squadron-wide shortly after the Pedro 66 crash on the 9 June 2010 and worn
briefly as a memorial, & at the memorial service. Only 200 were ever purchased by the squadron.
“Pedro 66” was flying to to
pick up a wounded British Marine in the British base in Sangin, southern
Afghanistan, when it was hit in the tail rotor by a rocket propelled grenade. 5
of the 7 crew were killed, 2 were critically wounded.
