USAF / 33d ARRS / Det 1 / HH-3E / Jolly Green Giant

Detachment operated away from the main Squadron, these smaller groups had to rely on local services for their day-to-day operations. Consequently, the detachment crews often sought out local tailor shops to create custom patches for them. The majority of these patches were handmade, resulting in a unique quality where no two are exactly alike. While some patches may exhibit similarities, this can be attributed to the shops' use of a basic design.

These Detachment patches were crafted across the Far East, making it challenging to pinpoint their exact origins, as crews had them made in various locations such as Thailand, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines. As a result, there exist several variations, although their overall quantity is limited, given that detachments had fewer crews, resulting in a smaller number of patches.

Detachment 1 dates are very difficult to find, but this dates from the very early 1970’s (1971) when Detachment 1 was formed at Clark AB, Philippines. This makes it a HH-3E era patch. This role was taken over by the 41st ARRW Detachment 1 c. 1972 so it’s a very short-lived patch as an ARRS unit.
This is defiantly Far East & more than likely Japanese made as the embroidery is typical of the period & area.
Partly embroidered on twill with an odd yellow backing, with a schiffli cut edge, with the Giant in Dexter.
